Alissa Amundon is known for her dynamic performance style and love of empowering young musicians both with a love of music and with confidence to push their performance skill to the highest levels.
Alissa studied with Julie Gaisford Keyes until she was 16, where she began studying with Louise Vickerman, Principal Harpist for the Utah Symphony and Opera. Alissa has also studied with Louise Pratt, Sarah Bullen (Chicago Symphony Orchestra), Ruth Myers (Eastern Michigan University), and ShruDeLi Ownby (former Director of Lyon and Healy West and Brigham Young University). As a young harpist she participated in the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and performed as a featured soloist with the Park City Music Festival. Alissa was also a featured Soloist during the 2002 Salt Lake City Cultural Olympiad. Alissa attended Brigham Young University and performed with the BYU Philharmonic under Kory Katseanas as well as with the BYU Harp Ensemble. Alissa has also performed extensively with the Utah Youth Symphony Orchestra and played second harp with the Utah Symphony. She has performed in Abravanel Hall and the Tabernacle on Temple Square (the home of the acclaimed Tabernacle Choir on Temple Square) as well as internationally in Novosibirsk, Russia.
Most recently, Alissa performed with
the Johsnon City Symphony Orchestra and Ballet (Principal Harpist)
the Utah Symphony (sub as Principal Harpist)
Weber State's Band and Symphony Orchestra (Principal Harpist)
The American Symphony (second Harp)
The Utah Youth Symphony (as a mentor),
The Wasatch High School Orchestra (Principal Harp)
as well as with various community orchestras.
Alissa’s passion is teaching. After 10 years as a classroom educator (High School English and Social Studies), she transitioned into the EdTech world. Alissa grabs any opportunity to perform and teach music. Working in high schools has increased her passion for helping young musicians develop the “hard skills” of technique and theory, but also the “soft skills,” such as performing, engaging audiences, professionalism, and preparing for competitions and auditions. As an educator, she is committed to helping young musicians be better performers and increasing their potential as collegiate and professional musicians. Recently, she facilitated the annual Harp Festival for the American Harp Society, Utah Chapter as COVID forced it to become a digital festival.
Alissa is currently serving as the President of the Utah Chapter of the American Harp Society.
Alissa has over 30 years of experience as a harpist. She opened her first studio in high school, earned a master's degree in education, taught High School English and Social Studies for 10 years, and engaged with music students throughout her time in the classroom.
Now, she is building a harp studio, teaching beginners to advanced students (pedal and lever harp), out of her home in Midway, Utah.
